A paper by Colleges and Institutes Canada indicates that institutions across the country, which frequently make a difference in their local communities, are ideally positioned to prepare immigrants and Canadians to integrate into the labour market.

Travel worldwide has been affected by the pandemic, and Canada is no exception. In March 2020, to curtail the spread of the virus, Canada implemented travel restrictions. In spite of this, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has continued to process permanent residency applications. This is because, as they plan for economic recovery, Canada had to begin attracting deserving highly qualified individuals to make the trip to the Great White North.

Furthermore, foreign students are excluded from these limits on travel. New students are now eligible to apply for research permits and receive them. The importance of foreign students to its potential workforce is acknowledged by Canada.

The peaceful reopening of our borders to new immigrants and foreign students would help Canadian employers and small businesses greatly. This will help to meet their needs for labor.

This immigration need is not recent. Canada was already planning to accept rising numbers of new immigrants per year prior to the pandemic, and employers and business leaders called for more successful immigration policies. This is because Canada has an ageing population that creates shortages of labor. The need for new talent just exacerbated the pandemic.

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, the majority of labor shortages are for jobs that require at least a college diploma or an apprenticeship (CFIB). The CFIB also indicated that to succeed, small companies frequently rely on immigrants and temporary employees.

Newcomers will have access to short-term programs and micro-credentials that, through upgrading their skills, will help them transition rapidly into the labor market. In these training options, Canadian citizens can also enroll. Such alternatives allow immigrants to learn the skills needed to get work.

Ways for eligible employees to immigrate to Canada

When immigrating to Canada, individuals with professional job experience have several choices to choose from. Canada plans to accept over 400,000 new permanent residents next year, according to the most recent Immigration Levels Proposal for 2021-2023. As professional employees, about 60 percent would immigrate.

The three major economic class immigration services are the main way for eligible employees to immigrate to Canada: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The primary application management system of the Canadian federal government, called Express Entry, oversees these services.

Those who apply for the Express Entry system will be able to build a profile and enter their information. Candidates are given a Detailed Ranking System (CRS) score on the basis of the information provided. The highest-ranking applicants are invited to apply for daily Express Entry drawings for permanent residence.
