Express Entry: CRS falls to 469

Canada is on target to reach 100,000 ITAs released in 2020, the highest ever in one year.

In an all-gram draw this year the Express Entry cutoff score dipped below 470 for the first time.

A Detailed Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 469 was mandatory for candidates to be invited to the invitation round on 25 November. A total of 5,000 invitations have been sent to candidates for Express Entry, linking this draw to the highest number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued in a single draw.

Express Entry for three federal economic class programmes is Canada’s immigration application management system: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

Points are awarded in English or French based on a candidate’s human capital variables such as age, education, job experience, and language skill.

An Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency in an Express Entry invitation round is granted to the top scoring candidates.

The latest drawing takes to 97,350 the total number of ITAs published in 2020. A record-breaking 5,000 ITAs were seen at the previous Express Entry draw and brought the number of invitations given this year past the mark.

The large number of ITAs is consistent with the pledge of Canada to accept more than 400,000 new immigrants in 2021, most of whom come through the Express entry.

The tie-breaking rule is enforced by the IRCC in the event of a tie between candidates. So for this draw, applicants who had a CRS score of 469 or more had to apply their Express Entry profile to obtain an invitation before October 15, 2020, at 08:50:10 UTC.

PNP-only drawings have higher criteria since an additional 600 CRS points are immediately awarded to Express Entry applicants who obtain a provincial nomination.
